Lionni, L. & Pantheon Books. (1967). Frederick. Adfo Books.
Summary:
A family 0f mice that lives in a stone wall in the meadow starts preparing for the winter season. All but one of the five mice collaborated on the work. As the rest of the family asked what Frederick was doing, he would reply things such as that he was absorbing sun rays and colors and saving words. When the winter came and the food actually ended, Frederick had to share his supplies, and the family deemed him a poet, to which he agreed.
Lionni incorporated gorgeous pictures that helped narrate the story. Additionally, the illustrations captivated the essence of the characters and their emotions. The story conveys the themes of self-acceptance.This book is a great resource to encourage children to accept that everyone has different personalities and talents, and that it is okay to be different. Also, this book could be used for the reader's theater.
