Smith, L. (2010). It’s a Book (First Edition). Roaring Brook Press
This book portrays a story about a monkey, a mouse, and a jackass using different media sources. The jackass being tech savvy is not acquainted with print media. As the monkey hands him the book, the jackass becomes instantly intrigued by its content and begins reading the book. At the end of the story, the jackass realizes how enjoyable it is to hold a book to read.
Smith does a fantastic job by incorporating beautiful illustrations that lead to a better understanding of the story. The cover of the book is aesthetically pleasant and attracts the reader’s attention. This book can be used to teach the importance of having physical books to read and the great feeling you get when turning the pages. The readers can easily relate with the story and its characters as they resemble the power of both digital literacy resources and standard print materials.
