Medina, J. (2016). Juana and Lucas (Illustrated ed.). Candlewick.
Summary:
This lovely story is about Juana and the many things she loves that include drawing, living in Bogotá, Colombia, and her best friend Lucas. She doesn't like wearing her itchy school uniform, solving math problems, or learning the English. In another adventure, Juana realized the importance of learning the English language.
Medina did an amazing job at creating a lovely story where vivid illustrations clearly support the narration. The comic interactions between Juana and Lucas captivate the reader’s attention. This book is a great resource for ELL students as it exposes vocabulary in Spanish for cultural authenticity.
