The story conveys the themes of friendship, determination, trust, and immigration. This book is a great resource for ELL students as it exposes vocabulary in Spanish for cultural authenticity. Also, this book could be used for the reader's theater. Additionally, this book could be used to expose children to the hardships and struggles families face when they seek to make better lives for themselves and their children by illegally crossing the borders.
