For this assignment, I had the opportunity to explore different tools that allow educators to present and record videos using a computer or mobile devices. Last year during virtual instruction, I became very familiar with these tools. Occasionally, I had to prerecord my lessons and had my student follow them asynchronously. This was extremely helpful for those students that were unable to join my Google Meet sessions. Additionally, it gave me the opportunity to record our meetings, so our scholars could reference back to those lessons and review them at their own pace. Moreover, I used screencasting to accommodate to meet my students' needs. Sometimes I used screencasting to provide oral language administration for assessments. For the most part, I would prerecord my video presenting and reading the questions and answers aloud. My students could play, pause, and rewind the video as they pleased while taking their assessments. This was very helpful! These are some of the tools I have experimented with.

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is an online tool that allows students to respond to discussions posted by their teacher. One of its newest features permits users to create videos and share one's screens while recording. My scholars love to use Flipgrid and respond to their classmates' videos. Its features include an ample selection of background screens, cool stickers, effects, mirror screen, present screen and so much more. The recordings are up to 10 minutes long and it permits you to edit your videos.

Screencastify

Screencastify is one of my favorites! I use it to create my Google Classroom banner GIFs. You have the option to present your whole screen or just a window tab. The free version has many features that include editing rights that allow you to add text, crop, edit, zoom, or blur your video. The only downside is that the free version only allows up to 5 minutes of recording. The Unlimited version is at a discounted price of $49 per year.

Google Meet

Google has revolutionized virtual instruction to another level. During remote learning, I would record my sessions to ensure all my students had the recordings for future reference. I had the opportunity to present my whole screen, a tab, or a window. Once your video is finalized, it will be uploaded to your google drive.

Zoom

Zoom is another tool great for screencasting. I would also use it during our video conferencing. You can create a meeting and present with video on, video off, or just screen share. Once your video is finalized, it will be uploaded to your Zoom account and will be found under recordings.

Screencast-O-Matic

I created a free account to be able download a web recorder program. While recording you can present your screen, webcam, or both. It allows you to record as many videos as you want up to 15 minutes long. It provides a free editing tool that will enhance your captures so you can lecture, edit, and share your videos!

I decided to use Screencastify to create an educational video to teach my scholars how to access our online reading tools.

I think the pandemic forced educators to really become familiar with this type of teaching style, and I definitely used it this year when I had surgery and was out a week. I've seen teachers who use it to create a flipped classroom, and for base vocabulary and knowledge, I can see the benefit of that.

I also found screencasts so helpful for asynchronous students although at the time I was not familiar with these options. I found these to be extra helpful this year when I was recovering from being ill and couldn't talk much. Luckily I was able to find my recordings from last year so that I could rest my voice as much as possible!
